SAN BERNARDINO >> A preliminary hearing for Enrique Jimenez Sr. has been reset for July 21 in San Bernardino Superior Court. On Friday, May 20, at 12:12 a.m., a deputy sheriff observed several males dumping trashcans on 6th Street, near Sterling Avenue. The deputy attempted to contact the males, who entered their vehicle and drove away. A failure-to-yield ensued after the driver, later identified as Jimenez, lit one of the trashcans on fire. The pursuit continued through city streets to the area of Elmwood Road and Fisher Street in Highland, where two male juveniles fled on foot from the vehicle. After a brief foot pursuit, deputies detained both juveniles, who were related to Jimenez. Jimenez led pursuing deputies into Los Angeles County, where they asked the California Highway Patrol to take over the pursuit. Jimenez led officers into Paramount. The pursuit terminated in the 8100 block of Golden Avenue, after Jimenez collided into two Downey Police cars. Jimenez was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit and transported to the San Bernardino Police Department. Deputies looked into the trashcans on 6th Street and found the victim, Morris Barnes’, partially charred remains with multiple stab wounds. The area on 6th Street where Jimenez and his sons dumped the trashcan with Barnes’ body inside was in the San Bernardino Police Department’s jurisdiction. Homicide investigators from the San Bernardino Police Department assumed the investigation. During interviews with the suspects, investigators learned the murder took place on Elmwood Road in Highland. Investigators then called the Sheriff’s Department Homicide investigators to brief them on the investigation and a joint investigation proceeded. Enrique Jimenez Sr. was transported and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for PC 187 Murder and Felony Evading. The two male juveniles, ages 14 and 17, were arrested, transported, and booked into Juvenile Hall for Accessory to Murder.
