Carjacking Turns Pursuit

Of late, a 1997 Honda Accord was taken in a “Car Jacking” in the Devore area of San Bernardino County. The suspects that stole the vehicle were reportedly armed. That vehicle along with the suspect’s description was immediately reported to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Central Station. Just recently, that same vehicle was observed by San Bernardino Police Officers in the area of Highland Ave and Del Rosa Ave, and officers attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle did not stop, but instead accelerated in an attempt to evade officers. The stolen vehicle reached speeds of 90-100 mph on surface streets in an attempt to elude officers. At one point during the pursuit the driver lost control of the vehicle, struck a curb and became airborne rolling multiple times. The vehicle came to rest on the grass area to the front of the business in the 700 block of east Highland Ave. The passenger in the vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital prior to being lodged at the WVDC. The Driver fled on foot and was located in a garage in the 2200 block of Cedar Ave. However, when officers attempted contact with the suspect he was uncooperative claiming to have a gun and threatened to kill officers and himself if they attempted to arrest him. The SWAT Team responded, established communication, and eventually deployed chemical agents in an effort to get the suspect medical attention for self-inflected lacerations. Both suspects were charged with carjacking, felony evading as well as weapon charges, and they were eventually lodged at the WVDC. No officers or residents were injured during this incident.
