Valley College Men's Cross Country: Palmer Heads to Arkansas

San Bernardino Valley College Men’s Cross Country sophomore Douglas Palmer (Beaumont High School) has signed a letter of intent to run for Southern Arkansas University next season. Palmer led SBVC to their 19th straight Foothill Conference Championship and 24th overall, the top individual finisher was Palmer, with a time of 19:42, and he was also named the Conference MVP. The event was held at Legg Lake in El Monte, SBVC runners took the first nine spots at the finish line. He finished as the number two runner for SBVC at the Southern California Championships at 21st which helped the Wolverines claim third place. At the 2014 California Community College Athletic Association State Championships, Palmer finished in 24th place clocking 20:50.8 over the four mile course at Woodward Park in Fresno. As a freshman in 2013, he was a top seven member of the So Cal championship team (SBVC's eighth consecutive title) as well as the third place team at state. Second year coach Jim Ratigan guided his team to their 19th consecutive Foothill Conference Championship, then took a 3rd Place finish at the SoCal Finals with a 5th Place finish at the CCCAA State Championships. As a reward for their 24th Conference Championship, the team was bestowed with the Conference Coach of the Year award and Conference MVP along with eight All-Conference honors. Southern Arkansas University is located in Magnolia, Arkansas which is about 20 miles north of the Arkansas-Louisiana border. The SAU Muleriders are coached by fifth-year veteran coach, Tim Servis. In the 2014 season, the Muleriders finished 17th at the Division II Central Region Championships. SAU is in NCAA Division Two.
