SBVC Baseball: Quintana Signs Minor League Contract with Rangers

On Aug. 11, former SBVC Baseball first team All-American and former Baseball assistant coach, Adam Quintana (San Bernardino San Gorgonio) was recently signed to a minor league contract, joining the Rookie team for the Arizona League (AZL) Texas Rangers in Surprise, Arizona. In his two appearances so far, including last night’s game against the Rookie Padres, Quintana has tossed four and a third innings, allowing three hits and striking out eight. Quintana, 23, played for SBVC in 2011 and 2012, being named All-American in his sophomore season with SBVC. In addition, he was also named Conference Player of the Year, first team All-Foothill Conference as a utility man and was awarded back-to-back Rawlings Gold Glove awards for his defensive presence in the outfield. Completing his sophomore season as a pitcher for SBVC, Quintana finished in the top five in Conference in four major pitching categories; which included finishing fifth in Conference wins with six, second in saves with nine, third in earned run average with a 1.51, and fourth in strikeouts with 69. As a batter, he finished fourth with a .312 batting average and played in 34 of 36 games, starting all of them. Quintana snagged 43 base hits; leading team in runs scored with 30 and in hit by pitches with ten. In his junior season at Concordia University Irvine in 2013, Quintana had a record 7-5 with a 3.29 ERA, striking out 22 in 23 innings and allowing 22 hits. The following season, he was invited to play in the Southern California Collegiate Baseball League to play with the High Desert Heat, leading the Heat with 51 strikeouts while averaging 11.48 K’s per game. Quintana played his senior season at Peru State going an impressive 8-0 with a 0.88 ERA, striking out 90 in 72 innings and allowing 47 hits. On April 6 he was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
