Last month the national sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Rho Chapter, held its 4th annual Educators Prayer Breakfast, honoring Gloria Macias-Harrison, a San Bernardino Community College board member, and Dr. Gloria Fisher, the newly appointed president of San Bernardino Valley College. Ted Alejandre, who was sworn in Jan. 5 as the Superintendent of San Bernardino County schools, was the keynote speaker. Gloria Macias-Harrison was elected to the San Bernardino Community College Board of Trustees in 2012. Previously, she served as president of Crafton Hills College from July 2000 until she retired from the position in July 2012. Macias-Harrison has served as the vice president of instruction at Crafton Hills College, a position she held for six years, and dean of humanities at San Bernardino Valley College for three years. She has more than 20 years teaching experience. Dr. Gloria Fisher spent 16 months as San Bernardino Valley College's interim president before she was named president in November by a unanimous vote of the college's board of trustees. Fisher has worked at the college since 1991, where she taught criminal justice. She held positions as a department chair, as dean of the criminal justice division and vice president of student services at the college. The Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Rho Chapter is a sorority of educators who work to advocate for education and recognize contributors to the educational fields, also providing scholarships to graduating seniors. The sorority also partners with SBVC to host an annual Teach-A-Rama and sponsor a Black History Bee for all students grades 3 through 8 each year, among other events.
