At just 17 years old, Payton Orem is already making an impressive impact both in the classroom and on the field. A Senior at Grand Terrace High School, Payton maintains an outstanding 4.3 GPA while successfully balancing the demands of academics, athletics, and personal interests.
Payton’s athletic journey began early. She has been involved in sports since the age of three, starting with soccer, competitive dance, and softball. By the age of 10, she found her true passion in softball which is a decision that has shaped her path ever since.
Currently playing third base, Payton continues to be a key contributor to her team. In a recent game against Carter High School, she delivered a standout performance at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, and two singles. Her dominant showing not only fueled her team offensively but also reflected the results of her dedication and belief that hard work ultimately surpasses talent.
Payton’s success extends beyond athletics. She has earned recognition on the Principal’s Honor Roll, received ACES awards, and has been named a Student-Athlete for three consecutive years. On the field, her leadership and skill have led to major accomplishments, including earning a Varsity spot as a Freshman and being named Team Captain as a Junior. Among all her achievements, she takes the greatest pride in her ability to balance academics and athletics, allowing each to strengthen the other.
Outside of softball, Payton enjoys reading, cooking, and painting which are creative outlets that help her stay grounded and well rounded.
When asked about her biggest inspiration, Payton quickly credits her parents and shares, “My biggest influence is my parents. They have pushed me to be a better person on and off the field and held me to a standard that has allowed me to achieve my goals. They have kept me steady through my softball journey and have been my anchors through it all. They have shown me that with hard work and dedication, I can achieve anything and I carry that with me every day.”
Looking ahead, Payton plans to attend a university where she can continue playing softball while pursuing her academic goals. She aspires to attend medical school and ultimately become a pediatric surgeon, with the goal of helping children and making a meaningful difference in their lives.
She also lives by two personal mottos, “Attitude, effort, energy” and “Hard work will always beat talent.” Passed down from her father, these words have guided her throughout her athletic journey and serve as daily reminders that success is rooted in what she can control which are her mindset and her effort.
Payton leaves readers with this message, “There is always going to be a hard time, and it is important to remember that it is temporary.” The struggles you face will lead to something rewarding. Always try your best, give everything you have to the things you truly want, and don’t look back.”
Payton’s growth and dedication have been nothing short of inspiring. With her talent, determination, and strong support system, she is poised to continue excelling both on and off the field. The future is incredibly bright for this Lady Titan.
