The San Bernardino Public Library-Jack L. Hill Lifelong Learning Center begins their Summer Series of Virtual Youth Programs June 16th at 11 a.m. with “Cartooning with Phil: Be a Creator.” Local cartoonist, Phil Yeh, will be on hand at Feldheym Central Library explaining how to create your own cartoon character while participants learn the basics of cartooning. Can’t come into the library? No problem; the event will also be available virtually after June 16th from the our website at www.sbpl.org
Following the cartooning event will be “Fossil Dig!” available virtually beginning June 30th at 11 a.m. Participants are provided fossils embedded in plaster and sand to “excavate” themselves. Local presenter, Jocelyn Garcia, will guide the kids through the fun process of identifying their found fossils.
The third event is a series of two, available both virtually and in-person at Feldheym Library on July 14th and July 21st at 11 a.m. This fun event will lead kids ages 9-12 through the engaging discovery of Robotics Coding. Participants will learn how to work with Tinkercad, an online 3D modeling program. Hands-on guidance from Gearbox will then be provided to create an actual working model utilizing the learned skills of Tinkercad.
The fourth event will begin on August 18th and will be available through August 27th, where signed-up participants pick up bags full of materials and supplies for fun STEAM activities. Access links to recordings will be included in the kits explaining the individual projects, or create your own ideas!
School-aged children are invited to try any or all of the four Virtual Youth Programs being offered this summer through the San Bernardino Public Library. Each program, which are all free of charge, includes a grab-n-go kit that can be picked up by arrangement at any of the four library locations. Many of the events will be available in-person or online, making it simple to participate. Give the San Bernardino Public Library Learning Center a call to sign up at 909-381-8205, or send an email to llcjackhill@gmail.com. See you at the library!
