Metrolink, Southern California’s regional passenger rail provider, surprised customers in downtown Los Angeles today with special musical performances and giveaways in honor of Latino Heritage Month. Metrolink riders and LA Union Station visitors were greeted on their afternoon travels by the sounds of local artists La Bestia Norteña and Marimba Tropical. Metrolink staff members joined in the celebration, passing out branded swag and popular snack items that are staples in Latino communities.

“Latino Heritage Month is an important opportunity to celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of our Latino communities and how they’ve helped shape the history and identity of our region,” Metrolink Board Director and County of Los Angeles Supervisor Hilda Solis, whose district includes Union Station, said. “The theme of today’s celebration, ‘¡Conectando comunidades, celebrando culturas!,’ resonates deeply with Metrolink’s mission as a public transit agency to serve and unite people across municipalities and cultures. It’s through our shared connections that we build stronger, more inclusive communities for all.”

“¡Conectando comunidades, celebrando culturas!,” or “connecting communities, celebrating cultures,” highlights the vital role transportation and mobility play in connecting Southern Californians with opportunities and one another. By providing access to jobs, education and social spaces, Metrolink helps weave together the distinct identities of our region, uniting communities across the six-county system.

In addition to Wednesday’s special event at Union Station, Metrolink has curated a collection of Latino-inspired or culturally significant destinations accessible via the service at metrolinktrains.com/latino-heritage. Two new apparel designs celebrating the deep roots and rich history of Southern California’s Latino communities are also available for purchase through the Metrolink Store for a limited time.
