Train Testing in San Bernardino

By San Bernardino County Transport Authority

03/22/2022 at 05:03 PM

Train testing throughout the 9-mile Arrow corridor has begun and will continue until service starts later this year. Metrolink and DMU trains are being used to test the tracks, signals at the crossings, and communication systems. Initial train testing includes Metrolink locomotives with up to six cars at one time. Testing with DMU trains is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of March 21. For safety, and in compliance with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations, horns (two long, one short, one long) and bells will sound at street crossings throughout the 9-mile corridor during testing.

Saturday train testing (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) of the Metrolink trains is tentatively scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, March 19 along the 9-mile corridor.

Nighttime train testing (10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.) of the DMU trains is tentatively scheduled to occur in the City of San Bernardino on Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26 (into Sunday morning).

Intermittent daytime (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) lane closures will occur at local grade crossings between E Street and Church Street. Through travel/two-way travel will remain at all times at each location.

Roadway and pedestrian gates will be in full operation to provide traffic and pedestrian control at each of the intersections/crossings. If needed, flaggers and safety personnel will be onsite to assist with motorists and pedestrians at the intersections/crossings.
