Cinco De Mayo Food Truck Festival

The San Bernardino County Regional Parks Department recently held its first Cinco De Mayo Food Truck Festival at the Cucamongo-Guasti Regional Park. Some of the trucks in attendance included Tornado Potato, Bakery Truck, Mustache Mikes, The Grilled Cheese Truck, Devilicious Food Truck, Me So Hungry, Rolling Sushi Van, and Fresh Street food truck. Kristy Stevens, who helps coordinate events for San Bernardino's eight regional parks said, “The turnout was very good... around twelve hundred were in attendance.” Entertainment for the event included the Copali-Copili Aztec Dancers, St. Mary's Ballet Folklorico and the Original Sacrifice Band. The Copali-Copili Dancers practice traditional Aztec dances originating in Mexico City. After leading a series of high-energy dances, Raymond Ramirez of the Copali-Copili was hungry for “Probably Tacos.” Many of the patrons at the festival gave rave reviews on the food. Howard Weiss, an Ontario-area resident, joked, “Best grilled cheese with asparagus I've had all day. It's nice having something unique that you can't make at home.” Freddy Gonzalez and his family enjoyed grilled cheese and his favorite, the Macho Tornado, which he described as “Potato wedges with chili-cheese.” Attendee Mark Kalland shared, “The dragon rolls were amazing. Best thing I ever had in my life.” Jon Young, who operates the Fresh Street Food Truck, said this was the first food truck festival he had attended. His truck specializes in foods with no chemical additives and he also mentioned that the event is a refuge for small-business owners, “I don't like being told what to do. This is a self-funded operation.” Also provided at the event was a kid's zone with inflatable obstacles courses and a mechanical bull. Sarah Gertmenian, a friend of one of the performers, said the festival was, “Very cute... Very adorable... If they do it again next year, I'll bring my family.”
