The United Methodist Churches of San Bernardino will be holding their Fourth Annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Methodist Church located at 785 N. Arrowhead in San Bernardino.
This Holiday Feast is open to everyone and is free to all. The menu is a full "Turkey Day" meal and there is a clothes closet for those in need of warm wear for the cold winter days. On a day when so many go hungry, this is an opportunity to get some hot food, warm clothes and good fellowship.
There are three parts of this event that public participation is invited:
* Come to the feast; it’s open to all. Pass the word around your neighborhood.
* Contribute food and goods. To cook for 500+ people takes a lot of groceries. Any contributions may be delivered directly to St. Paul’s UMC at 785 N. Arrowhead in San Bernardino. A list of needs is included below.
* Be a volunteer. If you or your family would like a really different Thanksgiving Day… come and “work” the event. Over the past three years several hundred citizens have taken their day to be the crew, not just come and eat. This is a great opportunity to serve and see that others may not live the life your family enjoys. Volunteers are needed all day.
If you would like to join the volunteers, please call the St. Paul’s UMC office at 909-889-3609 and a church member will contact you with details.
Last year’s event served nearly 500 people and had over 100 volunteers giving time to make the event successful.
If you would like to donate to the needed food supplies for this community-wide annual event, here is the list of requested items: turkeys (15-20 lbs), canned green beans, dressing mix, canned corn, peas, (large cans of) pimientos, carrots, onions, potatoes, yams, corn starch, salads and salad dressings, butter and rolls/buns, bacon, coffee, teas, hot chocolate, lemonade mix, liquid creamers, cold and hot cups, napkins, dinner and dessert paper plates.
All can be dropped off at the church at 785 N. Arrowhead in San Bernardino from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Mon-Fri.
Donations of the following outreach materials will also help make a difference: blankets, men’s, women’s and children’s clothes and coats, shoes, socks, new underwear (in package), toiletries and bags
(Clothing must be washed and delivered to St. Paul’s UMC by Nov. 25, no day of drop-off).
