St. Bernardine Medical Center is under new leadership. Dignity Health, the parent company of St. Bernardine Medical Center, and the hospital's Community Board on Feb. 5 announced the appointment of Darryl VandenBosch as the medical center's newest president. VandenBosch's appointment comes after former president Steven Barron, who held that position for the last 15 years, phased out of the role to focus on his role as the senior vice president of operations for Dignity Health's six Southern California hospitals, a release from Dignity Health states. VandenBosch has served as St. Bernardine’s chief financial officer (CFO) under Barron since 1999. In recent years, he has added CFO responsibility for sister hospital Community Hospital of San Bernardino, and more recently was named vice president/CFO for the six Dignity Health Southern California hospitals. He is a certified public accountant with over 25 years experience in health care finance. “In our search for a new St. Bernardine president, Darryl was the unanimous choice of our selection committee to lead our hospital in its ongoing efforts to provide high-quality care and humankindness responsive to the unique needs of our community,” explained hospital Board Chair Lawrence Walker, MD. “His passion for the work we do, the respect he commands from those who work with and for him, and his commitment to the communities we serve are well known and admired qualities.” Barron shared that he was pleased to pass on the torch to VandenBosch. “One of the first things I did as president was to hire Darryl,” he said. “Throughout those years, he has been a loyal and collaborative partner to me, our leadership team, boards, Sisters, medical staff and community. Darryl has proven himself to be not only an outstanding financial strategist, but also a true leader, innovative thinker and major contributor to the overall successful implementation of our goals and fulfillment of our mission.” VandenBosch assumed the president’s role immediately. He said he is humbled to be provided the “exceptional opportunity” to continue to contribute to a community he understands and cares deeply about. VandenBosch said, “Under Steve Barron’s leadership, St. Bernardine has excelled in fulfilling the mission begun by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1931. I look forward to leading the hospital in maintaining our high quality clinical and care standards and in serving the health care needs of our communities in the years to come.”

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
